What is an autonomous course?
The importance of having an autonomous course is well recognized by “Centres of Excellence” like IIMs and IITs. These institutes accept and also conduct such courses. Autonomous courses are designed to cater to specialty areas of study where a lot of emphasis is laid on practical exposure and theoretical knowledge. Unlike University courses where changes to a course structure & syllabus is a very tedious and time consuming process, an autonomous course helps keep up with the time. Course up gradation, restructuring and modifications can be done easily, thereby ensuring that the course is never outdated and in line with the needs of the industry.
What is the difference between MBA & PGDM?
The PGDM courses at IIBR are an excellent blend of theoretical and practical knowledge. The subjects are introduced with theoretical inputs to make the students conceptually strong and then each of these topics is developed further by incorporating case studies and discussions about the current business affairs so that the students relate conceptual knowledge to the practical environment. This helps students to perform effectively in their first interaction with the Industry during the summer project.
How long has IIBR been in the education arena?
IIBR is introducing its 16th batch of PGDM in 2010. It has been at the forefront of management education and is held in very high repute by academicians and the industry alike. IIBR had been offering the MBA – IB course since 1995 and subsequently renamed the same to PGDM in 2007 as per AICTE norms. AICTE issued a Notification to all the Universities as well as Autonomous Management Institutes for regularizing all the management courses in India in 2007. For uniformity, PGDM nomenclature was decided by AICTE for all autonomous Two Years Full time Post Graduate courses.
What is the role of MCCIA as a promoter?
MCCIA i.e. Marhatta Chamber of Commerce in Industry & Agriculture, is the biggest regional chamber of commerce in Asia and includes all the big names in Industry like TATA Motors, Mercedes Benz, Kinetic Engineering, Cipla, Wockhardt, etc. as its members.
MCCIA as a promoter actively supports the Institute by way of excellent industry interface through its members and office bearers by providing valuable help during placements and summer projects. It also organizes various interactive guest lectures, seminars & business events like the Pune EXPO, IT EXPO, etc. to increase the students’ awareness about the Industry.
Are IIBR Courses affiliated to any University?
As per the guidelines of the AICTE, the Two Years Full time Courses at IIBR are named as PGDM courses which are recognized by the AICTE and Ministry of HRD, Government of India. Hence, there is no need of any affiliation of these courses to any University.
1.Is there any dual specialization offered by the Institute?
Nowadays, many Institutes offer dual specializations that are confusing and misleading too. At IIBR, we do not offer dual specialization. We believe that a specialization requires an in depth and focused study of the subject and therefore, the course structure is designed to give comprehensive, contemporary and high value knowledge about the specialization selected by the student.
Are these Courses well accepted by the Industry?
The proof of the pudding is in eating it! The alumni of IIBR have been well received by the Corporate world not only in India but outside India as well. Our alumni today are at top positions in some of the largest multinational Companies across the world.
Are these Courses accepted by the Universities for further Courses such as Ph. D?
Since the courses at IIBR are approved and recognized by the AICTE and the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, they possess the requisite credibility valued in the Indian Education System. However, the eligibility criteria for different courses including a Ph.D. are decided by the concerned University.
What is the learning & teaching methodology followed?
By way of a four semester system with the Summer Project of Two months ( 50 working days ) after the second semester, the expert core faculties give classroom teaching through Teaching material, Classroom lectures, Group discussions, Case study development and Presentations by the students. This knowledge input is supplemented by the Guest lectures by experts from the Industry and also visiting faculties from India and abroad.
Does the Institute provide any hostel facility?
IIBR has one of the best hostels in Pune, which are well equipped and are separate for Boys as well as Girls. Since PGDM is a 2 year residential course, the fee includes 2-years lodging charges for the student.
What are the additional knowledge inputs provided by the Institute to the students?
In spite of the best efforts to keep the syllabus current and comprehensive in this dynamic scenario, there are certain specific requirements which need to be covered as extra knowledge inputs to enhance the professional competency level of the students which mainly include Software Testing, Training in Tally ERP, Derivatives Training, ERP Systems Exposure, Soft skill development, etc.
What is the benefit of providing the netbook to students?
At IIBR, the Teaching-Learning Process is based more on interactive Group Discussions, Presentations by the students and Case Study Discussions which requires intensive collection of information by surfing on internet. To make this more feasible, the campus of this Institute as well as the Hostel is made wi-fi enabled. Each student is provided with a laptop at the time of admission so that even in the comfort of their hostel rooms, students can access the information through internet and make use of virtual classroom or such advanced technical methods to upgrade their knowledge.
Does the Institute provide any help for summer projects?
At IIBR, we feel that, Summer Project is the first and most important step towards the final placement. The students are groomed under the capable mentors to decide, develop and execute a good summer project. The placement cell of IIBR also keeps a continuous liaison with various organizations to help students to get their projects done in reputed organizations like Mercedes Benz, TATA Motors, ICICI Bank, Morgan Stanley, Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance, etc.
Do you invite Foreign faculties for the guest lectures & workshops?
To enhance the global awareness of our students and to ensure excellent exposure to business trends across the world, foreign faculties are continuously invited to IIBR to give lectures and have interaction with the students. During a year, about 7-8 guest lectures and various seminars are delivered by foreign faculty.
What type of workshops does the Institute conduct?
Apart from academics, various workshops are conducted regularly for the development of the soft and business skills of the students. These workshops are conducted by the experts from the industry and social organisations like Shine Dot Com, Vision India, GTT, Tejgyan Foundation and other eminent trainers. Also workshops are conducted in ancient Indian practices like Yoga, Pranayam, Meditation, etc. to deal with this stress / pressures of work and thereby attain a good work-life balance and achieve personal growth.
How is the mentorship programme useful to students?
In the finishing process, mentorship plays an important part in shaping the career of the student. At IIBR, under this mentorship programme, a group of 15-20 students are placed with one experienced mentor who works as their friend, philosopher and guide. The mentor is responsible not only for the academic growth but also for the other important aspects of their personalities to transform them into intelligent, committed and dependable professionals to be the valuable asset for the society.
Do the industrial visits provide good industrial exposure?
MCCIA being one of the promoters, IIBR enjoys good relations with most of the Industries in Western Region of India. Therefore, on an average, every student gets to visit at least two to three industries. In the year 2009, students visited Sandvik Asia, Thyson Group Praj Industries, Radhiya Group, Autoclusture, etc.
Are there any placements provided by the Institute?
At IIBR, we groom our students to be able to take up challenging positions in organizations across various sectors of the economy. In fact, IIBR has had an extremely successful placement record over the years. Some of the companies where our students were placed are Yahoo, Ceasefire, Marksh Global International, Cipla, Zenith Computers, etc.
How many students have been successfully placed? What is the maximum & average salary offered?
It is mis-norm to speak about the maximum and average salary. We at IIBR, focus to help and groom our students to make them employable. These efforts result in the excellent placements. However, depending upon the individual capability and the type of the Company they select, the salary varies considerately. In the year 2009, the maximum salary obtained was 5.7 lacs per annum and the average salary was 2.5 lacs per annum.
What does the fee include?
The course is very competitively priced and the fee includes, Tuition fee, Hostel accommodation (lodging only), Netbook, Uniform, Overseas tour to a South East Asian nation, Soft Skill development program fee, Two business magazines, One business newspaper, student safety insurance or any equivalent insurance.
How is the overseas trip beneficial for students academically?
At IIBR, the overseas tour is not perceived as a recreation trip but it is more like a business delegation visiting different countries. During this visit with the help of MCCIA, the students are received and briefed by the Indian Consulate in that country, have presentation from the Chamber of Commerce in that country and also have interactive sessions with the captains of the Industry belonging to that country besides Industrial visits and Port visits.
When is the convocation?
Traditionally, the convocation is conducted in about one week after the Final Examinations are held and attended by dignitaries from the academia and industry.
